More Protein In Your Diet

Tips For Getting More Protein In Your Diet

Most bariatric surgeons suggest at least 75-90 grams of protein a day to help with successful weight loss. This aids in healthy weight loss losing fat and keeping and developing muscle. Protein also assists with healing after your surgery, to prevent any hair loss.

Protein is an important nutrient vital to cell growth and Continue reading

Life Style Change – Week 15

I’ll start with my weight progress…….

Total Weight Loss as of 11/07/13 is:  60.2 lbs lost…. (from my highest weight).  It has been 15 weeks since my surgery.  I think I’m doing pretty good, although this week I didn’t lose any weight.  (sad face).

I’m excited to share a non-scale victory!  Last Christmas my daughter, “N” gave me a present with a pair of pajama bottoms (that I had on my wish list).  Not knowing what size I was, she purchased a X-Large.  I can’t begin to tell you how tight they were last year.  I could Continue reading

Happy Dance – Week 14

As you can see from my title of this post, I am doing the HAPPY DANCE!  I hopped on the scale and I lost 4 more pounds (in a week).  I’m now weighing in at 192.8.  To be very honest, when I did go on the scale I expected to be back in the 200’s.  Like every other diet I had been on and off in the last decade – my “Onederland” was short-lived.  To find out that I actually lost 4 more pounds – reality began to set in!  I’m doing it!  I’m going to get to my goal weight!  I’m beginning to have faith!  I will!  I will!

At work, I’m called the “Health Nut”.  (I think I like that name!)  My department had a Continue reading

Slider Foods

I recently read an article about “Slider Foods” that Weight Loss Surgery patients need to stay away from.  I have to be honest, I’ve heard different definitions of what a slider food are.  However, I will summarize this article, as I found it fascinating!  (Let me know what you think.)

For most people eating sliders is a good thing (not healthy but o.k. to eat).  For example, Continue reading

Celebrating 50 lbs Lost!

Can you believe…. I’ve lost 50 lbs (last week)!   My highest weight since my journey (before surgery) was 253.  I’m now 203 lbs. and it’s only been 11 weeks after my surgery.  I’m really excited to see what the future holds and all the changes and improvements with my body and confidence that come with it.

I just have to share with you that last weekend, I drove my daughter, Megan into the city (NYC) to go Continue reading

No Room For Old Habits!

Having Weight Loss Surgery is the beginning of re-learning a new way of eating and choosing new healthy habits for life.   To be honest, for some it may be easy and for others it becomes difficult.

As a Weight Loss Surgery patient, I’ve been told that we should only be eating 3 times a day.  If we are still hungry, that is when we would reach for our Protein Shakes.  Remember, we need to take in 65 – 80 grams of protein daily!  Reaching this goal is not easy with a “pouch” the size of an egg.

What does Continue reading

Week 7 Update – Gastric By Pass

updateI’ve made it to week 7!  And I’m still doing well.

You will notice on my home page of my blog site that I decided to track my weight loss for the world to see.  Right before surgery I weighted 235 (this doesn’t include my highest weight) and have happily lost a total 23.1 lbs Continue reading
